Grammy Nominations + Wicked World Domination
Good news! He’s back! *to the tune of No One Mourns the Wicked*
My brain is honestly nothing but the Wicked Movie right now. Every time I close my eyes, I see flashes of pink and green, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
It’s Wednesday, which means there’s a new podcast episode, and after taking last week off, I was so excited to sit down and yap about pop culture for an hour this week.
Anna Wintour picks Marc Jacobs to be first US Vogue guest editor
For the first time in herstory, Anna Wintour is handing the Vogue reigns to a guest editor and it’s no other than Marc Jacobs. For 36 years, Anna has edited every single issue of Vogue and her inviting Marc to have full creative control on the 2024 December issue is major.
While sharing dinner at Balthazar (how New York of them), Anna handed Marc an envelope and told him “I would like you to be the guest editor of our December issue.” Inside the envelope were spreads that Anna had mocked up to give him ideas for what she was thinking for said issue.
“We want you to go for it! What would you like to say with your issue? Who would you like to be on the cover? What can the Vogue team do to help you?”
When Anna Wintour invites you to be the first guest editor of Vogue, you don’t turn it down. Marc shared that he wanted Anna to be on the cover in which she responded “Move on” which landed them on three-time Vogue cover star: Kaia Gerber.
They called in the big guns such as Stephen Meisel to shoot the cover and “the most influential makeup artist in the world”, Pat McGrath. Wearing head-to-toe Marc Jacobs 2024 in the shoot, I think this photoshoot is incredible and such a breath of fresh air for the magazine.
Rihanna opens first Fenty Beauty stores in Barbados
Miss Rihanna Fenty headed back to where it all began, Barbados, last week to open the first two Fenty Beauty stores on the island which is the definition of a full circle moment. Celebrating her success and this major milestone in her career, she opened up about where she’s at music wise and how she’s feeling about where she is in her life right now.
“I always say music was the thing that got the attention, but God had other plans for me. I was able to create in other ways that were very sincere, genuine, organic, and authentic to the things that I love so it doesn’t even feel like a job.”
In other words, stop asking her about the damn album.
As much as I would love new music from Rih, I’ve come to terms with how happy she is building this empire and how much more fulfilling it is for her in her life right now. I think it’s amazing to see someone step off the beaten path in their career and flourish the way Rihanna has so until then, I’ll keep ANTI on repeat (as it has been for the last eight years.)
Brianna LaPaglia opens up about Zach Bryan relationship on BFFs Podcast
Did somebody say “shit show”? This Brianna Chickenfry/Zach Bryan relationship drama has been messy to say the least and it appears to just keep getting messier. After Zach completely blindsided Brianna by announcing their breakup without telling her, he offered her $12M to keep quiet about their breakup (spoiler alert: she didn’t take the money and told us EVERYTHING).
On a recent episode of her podcast, BFFs, she spilled on all of the red flags during their relationship including him unfollowing her over a dress she wore to the Golden Globes but posting about how beautiful she looked in said dress on his stories (psychopath), an explosive episode he had on her friends and family during her birthday weekend, and telling her she needs to pack her bags and leave when she left for two weeks for work…did somebody say master manipulator?
These two aren’t people that I typically subscribe to, but I am TUNED in on anything else Brianna has to say about this POS.
People’s Sexiest Man Alive is John Krasinski
Since recording, People has announced John Krasinski as their 2024 Sexiest Man Alive.
It’s that time of year again: time for every publicist to pitch their male clients to People for their “Sexiest Man Alive” issue. People has been working overtime building up hype around this years honoree. Earlier this week they began counting down to the announcement by sharing some of the men who weren’t quite the sexiest, but juuuuust sexy enough to make the list…allegedly.
Starting off strong with a classic buzzy and rage bate victim: Benny Blanco. Now, hear me out. Benny Blanco is the sexiest man alive if you’re Selena Gomez, but it stops there. They knew exactly what they were doing by putting him up for this and it worked. The buzz and hype around the announcement grew exponentially after this article dropped and they kept the hype going by having the men of New Girl reunite on camera for the first time since the show ended in 2018.
And this is where being a newsletter subscriber is a plus: you get my opinion on this year’s announcement because it was announced after I recorded. Yay!
Did I expect John Krasinski to be the sexiest man alive? No. Am I mad about it? Also no. I was sure that Glen Powell would be taking this title this year but I guess that’s too obvious, right?
Congrats to John (and his PR team)!
Keke Palmer opens up about her time filming on Scream Queens
Keke Palmer is the queen of controlling her own narrative and she’s making it even more official with her upcoming memoir ‘Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative’ which comes out next Tuesday, November 19th.
Ahead of the memoirs release, she gave the LA Times a sneak peek of what to expect from the book and she’s opening up about her time filming Ryan Murphy’s “Scream Queens.” After requesting a day off from set (who knew Hollywood had PTO!?) to attend to prior obligations, the team told her that she would be needed on the day she was unavailable. She stuck to her guns and expressed how she needed the day off to attend to other business and Ryan Murphy told her this was “unprofessional” of her. A man telling a woman that tending to prior commitments and not what they want? Never heard that one before.
“It was kind of like I was in the dean’s office,” she says now, reflecting on the interaction. “He was like, ‘I’ve never seen you behave like this. I can’t believe that you, out of all people, would do something like this.’ ”
She also notes that one of her white, female co-stars who she refers to as “Brenda” made a racist remark to her on set when Keke was trying to ease tension that built on set. “Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin F— Luther King?”
Yikes! The internet does what the internet does best and went straight to her Instagram following list only to find that the only cast member she’s no longer following is Rachel Berry herself: Lea Michele. Though it wasn’t explicitly said to have been Lea, this isn’t the first time she would be called out by a black woman for making remarks likes this which is incredibly disappointing.
67th Annual Grammy Awards nominations announced
It’s tiiiiiiiiiiiiiime! The Academy has announced their nominees for the 67th Annual Grammy Awards and for once they (almost) got it right.
Leading the nominations with 11 is no other than Beyoncé which not only makes her the most nominated artist this year, it makes Cowboy Carter the most nominated album in Grammy history, as well as making Beyoncé the most nominated artist in Grammy history as well with 99 total nominations throughout her career. As if that wasn’t enough, last year (2023) he became the most awarded artist in Grammy history with 32 awards for her solo work and 3 for her work with Destiny’s Child. Try not to say mother challenge!
In terms of the girls that I’m rooting for, the rest of the nomination numbers are:
Sabrina Carpenter: 8
Charli xcx + Billie Eilish: 7
Chappell Roan + Taylor Swift: 6
Doechii: 4
Ariana Grande: 3
If you want my full take on who I think deserves to win the big 4 categories and other wins/snubs, you’ll have to listen to this week’s episode 😉
Ariana Grande + Cynthia Erivo’s press tour and Wicked premieres
Ariana Grande may have been snubbed at the Grammys but she is on top of the world when it comes to the Wicked press tour and premieres. I cannot get enough of her, Cynthia, Jonathan, and the rest of the cast as they gear up for next week’s movie release. They’ve been taking a "Journey Through Oz” with their premieres and have completed three of the five stops on their tour so far.
Sydney: Munchkinland
Los Angeles: Shiz University
Mexico City: The Enchanted Forest
New York City: Ozdust Ballroom (this Thursday, November 14th)
London: Emerald City (this Monday, November 18th)
They’ve been pulling out all of the looks including custom Versace and custom Thome Brown, as well as paying homage to the 1939 film and original source material which makes my Oz loving heart so happy. I’m in the middle of writing a breakdown of all of the looks + references our on-screen Glinda and Elphaba have given us so look out for that next week after the London premiere.
Ariana Grande wearing a pink Vivienne Westwood dress, paying homage to Billie Burke as Glinda in the Wizard of Oz
Cynthia Erivo wearing a Thome Brown sequin dress, recreating Margaret Hamilton's test shoot as The Wicked Witch of the West
I skipped the TV recap this week because I honestly turned my brain off and dissociated during RHONY and RHOSLC last week but I’ll be back with recaps next week!
Hope you all have a fabulous rest of your week + enjoyed this week’s episode! 💖
